With every loss, the Boston Red Sox get further away from making the playoffs and defending their World Series title. The Red Sox will try to stop the bleeding this week when they welcome the Los Angeles Angels to Fenway Park for a four-game series; Sunday’s finale will be shown at 1:05 PM ET on TBS, with Andrew Cashner (4.68 ERA) taking the mound for Boston opposite rookie southpaw Patrick Sandoval, who will be making his first official MLB start.

The Red Sox head into this series with a ton of ground to make up in the American League East, having recently been swept by the top two teams in the division: the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays. Cashner was acquired from the Baltimore Orioles in July to help Boston’s struggling rotation, but the Sox are 1-4 in his five appearances thus far, with the only win coming in Cashner’s lone quality start.

Sandoval made his MLB debut on Monday after Tyler Cole opened the first inning against the Cincinnati Reds, and it was a strong debut, with two earned runs on three hits in five innings of work. The Reds eventually won 7-4 as –190 home favorites.
